treasures...

we all have things that we treasure. they are personal to our hearts. to our souls. there are days that we then pull these treasures out for comfort. support. strength. wisdom. or just being. what if you could wear one of those things. it would then become a piece of you. yourself. i have a gallery that i adore in charlotte called lark and key. i was drawn to their choice of artists. each one strikes an emotion inside of me. they have unique taste in their selections. this is one of my most recent favorites...

...Brittany Isenberg...

what a beautiful piece of art to have in your own personal collection. it is a gift for many. a beautiful sentimental gift that will bring happiness. <3 i am going to look through all the cards and journals that i have of my mommy's and find the one word in her own handwriting that inspires me and makes my heart warm. <3

daughters. three daughters. i still cannot believe the blessings that fill up our life. i love our life to pieces right now. we are past the baby stage and not quite to the college and love drama stage. i am content here. i mother you well right here. i can cure all wounds, or at least make them better without a doubt. this is a time that i know i am doing well. not perfect, but well. i am soaking up every day. drinking it in because every year flies by so quickly now. i love that each of your personalities and independence has arrived. your bonds of sisterhood are set in stone. it is the proudest thing i have accomplished in my life, and forever will be. it is not about looks or haves. it is about your hearts. and the grace that comes from how you giggle together. it reminds me of your memaw and her sisters and their laughter. life long bonds. the strongest foundation of your lives. at the end of your every days i am content in my heart that the three of you have each other. you will forever nurture and take care of each other. the cup of life overflows.

in grief comes blessings too. it is life's reminder on how we arrived to where we are. grief can arrive at any given moment. it requires no knock on the door or text message. it shows itself right in the middle of your throat and aching heart as the welling begins. losing someone that you love so very much is not fair. losing my mother, your grandmother to the heavens changed me in so many ways. it changed you as well. each of you heal me and give me. i have always been a life lover. i am so much more than that through this life's experiences. i am grateful for knowing amazing and strong women whom have taught me that the pain i feel, and the way it shuffles in and out of my days, is normal. it took me a long time to grow there. and my inner child will never fully admit it is ok. and with that i am truly ok. life is about our relations. not perfection. most importantly...how we take care of our selves, our hearts & souls. my best friend has taught me that we 'are human'. although life can be right on track... our human emotions are justified. whenever we feel them. i have also grown to know our loves and relationships, that cup of tea, warm afghan, photograph, or shutter click pull me together and remind me of happiness {of my little girl happiness with my mommy}. of being loved. of loving my life right this very minute. i grab a hold and drink it in. it is my every day blessing. if i could freeze time at any point, not even knowing the future yet. here it would be. it took many long hard days and years to arrive here. there is completeness to life right here. my heart is full. i will love every fleeting moment. living in the day. life is about experiencing it on all levels. trying to embrace each time in our lives as it comes, stays and goes. because of loss i have grown to learn and be taught how much love truly overpowers the pain & grief felt. surrounding yourself with those that love you. a beautiful newness. growth. three fold. all we need is love. to push forward. to remember to soak in our good days. one day at a time. release those hard ones. carefully protecting our weak days. anything is possible with love. unconditional love has proved that to me. my lovely trinity. xoxoxo

my favorite tea kettle & origami tea

3.09.2010

{photograph courtesy hamilton beach}

an electric tea kettle was high on my list for christmas. in our home me~we have tea three times a day. after using an electric kettle at my aunt's house up in chicago i had a new found love for the quickness of boiling water. i do have to say that i adore my tea pots, but the convenience of electric has been fabulous and super quick! the girls use it for oatmeal, hot chocolate, soups, etc... a most brilliant invention. there are a few features on this one that i appreciate... it shuts off automatically. each & every time {no need to ever worry about burning down your house or stopping in the middle of putting mascara on}. it doesn't splash hot water to burn us. the outside stays warm, not scalding. it lifts off of its base. it is pretty. happy. and under $50. sold. can be purchased at target.

thought i would share a fun tea... i am going to have to give this origami tea a try. don't you just adore creativeness!?

imagination...

2.17.2010

You see things; and you say, "Why?" But I dream things that never were; and I say, "Why not?"
{George Bernard Shaw}

i am filling up my wardrobe of imagination. ordering all the goodies that i have put off. letting these little visions become reality. they have taken up space in my mind for way too many years. freeing myself from the boundaries that i have set. time to create. using what has been stored and flowing through my imagination.

i have a little task for you lovies... choose one thing that has floated around through your imagination and bring it to fruition. stop being your obstacle to your happiness. i made a list of things recently that i wanted to do for myself {we have all done this} and i have started marking them off. for once in my life i am marking them off without that perfect vision that i expected. as an artist we are never content with what we do anyways. and it has given me the freedom and energy to push me on to the next thing. i never really 'grasped' the 'just do it' saying. just like this blog, it will come together when it does and i am going to enjoy the journey. i can share {which makes me happy}. it is not perfect or complete. that is ok though. i did it. it has been on my 'do' prior lists for a long time. done! strike through! and it will be just the way i imagined, or not imagined as it continues to come together. but it is up and going and happy. another thing. i ordered new photos for my house {it has been a few years since i have changed them or added to them, typical photog}. i just opened random month folders and whatever stood out first i added to the cart. no rhyme or reason. i started doing more crafts. not major ones, but ones that make me and the girlies happy. we have missed doing them and it always gives me a burst of energy. listen to me lovies, i am your inner voice today... make something happen. just one thing that you have wanted to do. you don't need all the pieces to be there. just do it. use your imagination. and then i want to see or hear about it. pretty please? <3

photograph by me. please don't takey. thankyou.

this is how we bake here... word.

so. i thought that i would share some goodies here. i may even find the stamina to share our weekly menus that i concoct. i have a love of finding new recipes to keep the monotony of cooking dinner entertaining for myself. i will also share what my music selection is playing at the time. i tend to really enjoy the cure & a hell's belle to kick off the start of it. and i always have my reliable delila catching scraps for me. i am all about not cleaning up as much as i can {notice the oatmeal & flour on the floor in the second photo?}. as you will find in my photos. i have no rhyme or reason and they will not be the usual pretty put together cooking photos that you find on your favorite blogs. i am going to show you the reality of how i cook it up here at the boggs house with the bogglettes. i appreciate all the great bloggers that do set it up and make it look pretty though. they are the ones that encourage me to make most of these awesome dishes. and we usually take a recipe and make it to our liking. this one is for beachcomber cookies. nom nom nom.

we changed a few things on the beachcomber recipe. this is what we did...

* 2 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 teaspoon baking powder
* 3/4 teaspoon table salt
* 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
* 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
* 2 sticks unsalted butter (1/2 pound), room temperature
* 1 cups packed light brown sugar
* 3/4 cup organic sugar
* 2 large eggs
* 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
* 2 cups old-fashioned oats
* 1 cup milk chocolate chips
* 3/4 cup toasted flaked unsweetened coconut
* 3/4 butterscotch chips

Directions

Heat the oven to 350 degrees F and arrange a rack in the middle. Place flour, baking powder salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a medium bowl and whisk to combine; set aside.

Combine butter and sugar in a large bowl and beat over medium speed until mixture resembles wet sand and is airy, about 3 minutes. Add eggs 1 at a time, letting each fully incorporate before adding the next. Add vanilla extract. Reduce speed to low, add flour mixture in 2 parts, and mix until just combined, about 1 minute. Add remaining ingredients and mix until evenly combined.

Using a 2-inch ice cream scoop, drop dough onto baking sheets, spaced about 1-inch apart. Bake until cookies are puffed, set, and tops and undersides are golden brown, rotating sheets halfway through, about 18 to 20 minutes. Remove from oven, let cool on sheets 2 minutes, then remove to wire racks to cool completely.

these are worth the baking. nom's up!

a day in the life...

2.03.2010

shon walked into the downstairs bathroom and called me over. "come look at this babe." of course i immediately had all three of our girls following me. you see... i am looking forward to the salt & pepper look coming his way. it is going to look good on him. like a lot. leaning into the mirror he started showing me the progression as they watched and commented. a little later in the day this was found on our chalkboard wall in the kitchen... eesh. little do they understand. they did that to him. he is going to have to let them out of the house one day. not an easy task for a daddy to do with his baby girls. and the closer miss m gets to that age. the more salt & peppery it gets.

a cup of tea...

{photographs from MAKOOL LOVES YOU.}

i love finding the little things in life that accentuate the happies. i have always been a lover of tea. as a little lady my grandma and mommy made it often for me. it cured all ailments. it was warm and always sweetened with honey. yum. i still have an intimate connection with filling my little cup. i have a collection of mismatched tea cups. i think the only cups i have alike were gifted or inherited. i happened across this artist while visiting MAKOOL LOVES YOU. looking through their fashion line. i was immediately in love with the first tea cup i spotted. the artist is Irana Douer from Buenos Aires. her artwork is hand drawn on these lovely little cups.
